Spells allow the Heir to unleash a variety of unique attacks that deal Magic, or Intelligence-based, damage. A spell is given to each Heir at random in the Character Select screen, but spells can also be swapped out during a run using Curio Shoppes. In addition, Tiny SoulShop Icon Existential Appeasement Existential Appeasement allows an Heir to always start with a specific spell.

Every spell costs Mana to use. Mana is restored by hitting enemies with your Weapon, using certain Talents, and by drinking Mana Potions that drop from destructible props. All classes have their own base Mana pool, which can be modified through runes and relics. Certain traits also affect Max Mana and restoration.

All spells deal more damage the higher your Intelligence stat, but scale differently depending on the spell. The spell's damage modifier represents what portion of your Intelligence stat is applied to the spell; for example a damage modifier of 0.6 means the spell deals 60% of your Intelligence every time it deals damage, and when it deals a critical strike, it deals additional damage equal to 60% of your Focus * Skill Crit.
