Enemies comprise the main form of resistance the player will encounter when traveling through the game's biomes. From Skeletons to poisonous Slugs, the enemy host in Rogue Legacy 2 is both quirky and deadly.
This page is concerned with enemies in the game's general biome areas; if some foes are not listed here, they can be found on the Bosses page.
Enemy Hierarchies[]
For each enemy, there is a base form and 2 increasingly more powerful variants that build on it. Formally, these 3 forms are called Tier 1 (for the base version), Tier 2, and Tier 3 (often abbreviated as T1, T2 and T3). Most variants also follow a name convention. For instance the Plinky enemy has variants named Planky and Plonky.
The player starts out fighting Tier 1 enemies, but as they progress to more difficult parts of the Kingdom, Tier 2 enemies start appearing instead. Until the player enters New Game Plus and uses burdens, Tier 3 enemies can only appear as Commanders.
Tier 1 enemies are the weakest form. They have only one possible attack and a simple behavior.
They have a 40% chance to drop gold on death.
Tier 2 enemies have 20% more health and deal 10% more damage than the Tier 1, but they also have new attacks or behaviors. For instance, a Javelin Maiden can throw spears, and a Planky fires more projectiles while alternating between 2 different firing angles.
They have an improved 50% chance to drop gold on death.
Naturally, some enemies' T2 version start appearing in the last 3 biomes: The Stygian Study, The Sun Tower and Pishon Dry Lake.
Using the adds a chance for any T1 to evolve into a T2. Using any of the biome enemy burdens (like ) always upgrades certain T1s into their T2 form, and can add new enemy types directly as T2.
Tier 3 enemies are particularly dangerous. Their stats are even higher: 120% more health and 20% more damage than the Tier 1. They may fire even more projectiles or have other varying enhancements.
They always drop gold on death.
Naturally, they only appear as Commanders, but can do so in every biome, and through red portals.
Using the adds a chance for any T2 to evolve into a T3, including the T2 evolved or added by the biome enemy burdens.
There is also an informal Tier 4 form for some enemies, but this is simply how they are referred to in the game files. All of them consist of either Void Beasts or Minibosses. See the Bosses page for more info.

Enemy Stats[]
Damage[]
The damage dealt to you by enemies when they attack you or when you touch them through contact damage. With the exception of the Knut enemies and their poison cloud, that damage stays the same for an enemy no matter how they hurt you. The table above shows the damage value for all enemies at the lowest possible level (shown in game as Lv.2). That damage increases with enemy level, when using the threads, and when the enemy has the Massive commander buff.
, when going up higherThe full formula to determine an enemy's damage is:
Base DMG × ((level - 2.5) × 0.023 + 1) × (Biome modifier + Burden modifier + NG modifier + Massive modifier)
- Base DMG: the damage value in the table above
- level: the enemy level as shown in their health bar
- Biome modifier: to ease the player into the game, the game lowers the enemy's dmg in NG0 by a different value in different biomes. See the table below for more details.
- Burden modifier: +8% for each level of the selected; this caps at 5 levels and +40%
- NG modifier: +1% for each NG+
- Massive modifier: if the enemy is a Massive Commander, +50%
Health[]
The enemy's lifeforce. Reduce this to zero to kill them. The table above shows the hp value for all enemies at the lowest possible level (shown in game as Lv.2). That health increases with enemy level, when using the threads, when the enemy is a Commander and additionally, if it has the Massive commander buff.
, when going up higherThe full formula to determine an enemy's health is:
Base HP × ((level - 2.5) × 0.025 + 1 + Massive bonus) × (Biome modifier + Burden modifier + NG modifier + Commander modifier)
- Base HP: the HP value in the table above
- level: the enemy level as shown in their health bar
- Biome modifier: to ease the player into the game, the game lowers the enemy's hp in NG0 by different value in different biomes. See the table below for more details.
- Burden modifier: +8% for each level of the selected; this caps at 5 levels and +40%
- NG modifier: +1.5% for each NG+
- Commander modifier: +60% if the enemy is a Commander, no matter their commander buff(s)
- Massive modifier: if the enemy is a Massive Commander, adds +1 to that part of the formula (this might be a mistake as it results in a tiny health buff)
Speed[]
This stat is specifically about the enemies' normal movement speed. Certain monsters can move a lot faster than their stat implies while performing certain attacks, for example:
- charging at you (like the Fireballs family or the Ore'o enemy)
- leaping at you (like the Wolves family or the Re-Re-Risen enemy)
- attacking you while jumping (like the Blob Fish family or the Skranger Danger enemy).
Enemy speed does not increase with enemy level or threads, but only when using the (+0.7 speed per level), and when the enemy has the Fury commander buff (+50% bonus).
Biome modifiers[]
To ease the player into the difficulty of the game, the enemies' damage and health are reduced by a small percentage while in NG0. This reduction is different depending on the biomes visited and is not applied anymore when playing in NG+1 or above. The table below details the reductions:
Biome | Damage mod | Hp mod |
---|---|---|
Citadel Agartha | 90% | 94% |
Axis Mundi | 90% | 94% |
Kerguelen Plateau | 91% | 95% |
The Stygian Study | 91% | 95% |
The Sun Tower | 92% | 96% |
Pishon Dry Lake | 92% | 96% |
All Biomes in NG+ |
100% | 100% |
