Classes ‣ Dragon Lancer

The Dragon Lancer is a class in Rogue Legacy 2.

Overview[]

Dragon Lancers benefit from nearly every stat. They're one of 5 classes without reduced Max HP, so they benefit greatly from Vitality. Their weapon does moderate Strength damage, their Flying Joust (charged) attack deals bonus Intelligence damage (+160% Int.) and always Skill Crits (benefiting from Dexterity). Lastly, their passive grants them bonus Armor (+20%), which is also increased by their Mastery.

Class Passive[]

  • The Dragon Lancer's class passive is Armored, granting +20% Armor.

Weapon

The Dragon Lancer's weapon is the Charge Lance.

  • Press to swing, inflicting moderate knockback to enemies hit.
    • Knockback affects even Heavy enemies like Soldiers.
    • Primarily used for pushing enemies back, to give yourself time to charge your Flying Joust, and to charge up your Tiny Icon Talent Bastion Bastion.
  • Hold Attack to charge up a Flying Joust.
    • Flying Joust propels the Dragon Lancer at high speed across the screen, and deals AoE damage on striking an enemy.
      • Flying Joust can strike against walls to deal damage to enemies on the other side as well.
    • Can be steered vertically while in flight, and is canceled by Spin Kicks.
    • Deals bonus damage based on Intelligence, and always Skill Crits.

Talent

The Dragon Lancer's Talent is Bastion.

  • Bastion deploys 2 shields that protect your front and back. These block Large Projectiles and push enemies back with minor damage.
    • The Large Projectile category covers nearly every projectile in the game. Only some unique projectiles used by bosses are unaffected.
  • The knockback provides effective immunity against enemies that rely on contact damage, such as the Aqua Brace and Warg.
  • Can be used while charging and during a Flying Joust.
  • Lasts 3.25 seconds.
  • 6-hit recharge. Cannot recharge until the shield disappears.

Class Tips[]

Flying Joust is the bread and butter skill of the Dragon Lancer. Use it constantly, and use the knockback of the standard attack as a disengage to prep a Flying Joust. Learn to hit enemies at an angle with the Joust, as charging at them straight on often results in taking projectile damage (unless you have Bastion available).

Additionally Backblast can be used either for its knockback, or charging Bastion quicker with its faster attack rate.

Invest in Intelligence. This will increase your Flying Joust damage significantly, in addition to making your spells hit harder. Flying Joust hits restore 20 mana, so use spells often!

Because Dragon Lancers benefit from many stats, it's best to focus on their strengths, and how they synergize with their ideal spells, runes and relics. Dragon Lancers excel at:

  • Taking lots of damage via high Armor and Vitality
  • Dealing Return Damage when struck
  • Restoring and increasing Max HP using relics for high Effective HP
  • Dealing Critical Damage with Flying Joust's Skill Crit
  • Using Spells that always Skill Crit and/or apply damage over time status effects
    • Your choice of spell, such as Tiny Spell Icon Poison Bomb Poison Bomb or Tiny Spell Icon Magma Mass Magma Mass, can help overcome Flying Joust's weaknesses of: slow attack speed, lack of vertical coverage, and Blocker Commanders.

Fabled Class[]

Serpentine Shapeshifters
  • Press Up/Down on a Dragon Lancer during Character Select to change them into Dragon Puppeteers.
  • A Dragon Puppeteer is the same as a Dragon Lancer but starts with the Tiny Weapon Icon Dragon Puppet Dragon Puppet.
  • The Dragon Puppet's attack is an omnidirectional, instant Flying Joust with no AoE damage and no Bonus Int Scaling. Every attack moves you forward a great distance until you rebound upon hitting an enemy. Can stay in the air indefinitely as long as you keep attacking.

Lady Quinn Quotes[]

  1. Ooooh, you're a Dragon Lancer! Dragon Lancers are the coooooolest. I know I say that a lot, but I mean it! They're neat because they have t-t-two different primary attacks! Press Attack to do a Back Blast. This will give your enemies a steam bath! Hold Attack to charge y-y-your Lance and do a Flying Joust! It's called 'flying' for a reason!
  2. Did you know you can move while doing a Flying Joust? Y-you're surprisingly mobile while airborne, so if an enemy shoots a p-projectile at you, simply swerve around it! As a Lancer, you should n-n-never forget this golden rule: 'Those who go straight, will end up as bait.' 'Those who swerve 'round.... ...won't...'
  3. Your Flying Joust is way stronger than the Back Blast. ...Like, WAY stronger. And if you're not seeing a-a-a big damage increase, it's probably because your Intelligence is low. The Charge Lance is one of the few weapons that scales with both Strength and Intelligence! So it may be time t-t-to hit the books, because a balanced Lancer build works b-best!
  4. The Dragon Lancer's Bastion Talent creates a wall in the direction you're facing. It blocks a LOT of p-p-projectiles and has no casting time, so just like the Barbarian's Shout, cast it whenever you need it! Personally, I think the b-best time to cast it is while you're in a Flying Joust.
